          Who we are

We currently have 40 Consultant Anaesthetists and 21 Trainees from the North West Rotation at Hope Hospital.

Hope Hospital has all the major surgical sub-specialities on site. The only exceptions are Ophthalmic, Cardiac, and Burns & Plastic Surgery.

We have strong links with the Medical School of Manchester University, and teaching and training by our department is highly regarded by students and all branches of Health Care Professionals throughout the UK.

Our Chronic Pain Centre was one of the first to be set up in the UK, and enjoys an international reputation. We now also offer a first class Acute Pain Service throughout the Trust, (epidural and patient controlled analgesia being freely available), with dedicated Acute Pain Nurse Practitioners backed up by a named Consultant Anaesthetist.

Pre-operative assessment of all scheduled patients in clinic before admission has reduced the number of unplanned cancellation of operations at short notice significantly.

Our Intensive Care Unit currently has 16 beds, and provides a comprehensive service for critically ill patients. We also have High Dependency Units for all branches of surgical patient groups.

Our Maternity Unit offers a dedicated 24 hour anaesthetic service, with consultant anaesthetic staff providing training and cover each weekday.
